    August Trials

Once again the Edukick Manchester players have attended the UK football trials in Manchester. As part of the Edukick development programme we are committed to finding opportunities for players to showcase their ability and progress on in the game, ad UK football trials is just one of the way that the players can do this at Edukick Manchester.

This week the players on the full programme and those who are with us for just the summer package got a chance to showcase their ability in the Manchester trial. All the players went together, with head coach Nigel, and along with around 40 other top class players, received coaching and were put through their paces in a match situation by so high level, and very influential coaching on the UK football trials. At the session there was a host of clubs represented from premier league to non-league, all looking for the next Jamie Vardy, that undiscovered talent who could be the next big signing.

The Edukick lads did us proud. In the sessions they were focused and receptive of all the information, showing their work rate and commitment from the last few weeks on the programme. In the match situation they showed their team ability, with some great link up play and some commanding performances. Off the pitch we received great feedback on the conduct of the players and professionalism, which is great to hear.

Now it’s a waiting game. We will now see if any of the scouts, the club representatives or the UK football Trials officials spotted anything in the EduKick players and want to call them back for club trials. Good luck to all the lads.

Edukick Manchester and UK football trials have been working together for some time to deliver this opportunity to our overseas players. Over the past few years, one of the directors of UK football trials, Harry Price, has visited the school on a number of occasions to talk to the players about what clubs are looking for. Take a look at what he has had to say to the players in the past, so great information for budding young players to take in.

The EduKick Manchester squad were entered into a four team tournament at Belle Vue Leisure Centre yesterday hosted by Coaching connextions.  Unfortunately ‘Storm Doris’ causes havoc and, due to health and safety concerns, the outdoor competition was cancelled and replaced with a Futsol tournament.  Coming up against a Liverpool Team and neighbouring Manchester Team the lads were split into two squads and competed in three team league.  The play was fast and of a good standard with both teams performing well. Both teams came second in their groups and faced each other in a 3rd/4th playoff.

A 15 minute game finished 2-2 and needed to be decided by a sudden death shoot out.  The winning penalty being scored by Miles Kibukosya.

A good day for all the players and an opportunity for them to develop their Futsol skills.

Gareth was happy to speak with the boys and answer all of their questions as well as signing autographs.  It’s great to have such a successful player backing our new academy.

Expert Advice From UK Football Trials Director

Head Coach Nigel talks about this week’s guest speaker – Harry Price

‘Director and founder of UK Football Trials Harry Price visited the school this week to talk to the lads about the upcoming football trials in April which they will be attending.

Harry kindly gave up his time to visit the squad at IH Manchester to share his expertise and knowledge on what scouts look for within a football player. The 90 minute talk was full of information regarding the 10 key areas scouts evaluate each player on during the 3 hour trial which is held at Woodley Sports Village. It was interesting to see as head coach how engaged the players were and how relevant the work we do on the training field is helping the lads with their preparation.

The lads were able to put questions to Harry about the process of being offered a trial within a professional / semi-professional club, who reiterated the importance of hard work, commitment and attitude were some of the key attributes a player must show to help secure a trial with a club.

The squad benefitted greatly from the advice given by Harry and as the players coach I will be looking at those who are prepared to transfer this information onto the playing field, looking to give themselves an advantage over the other players.’
