    Manchester City Academy v EduKick

The final game of the season was a visit to Etihad Campus on Wednesday 14th June looking to better our previous performances at the ground. The lads were in positive mood after a long, physical term and wanted to finish the term strong with a win. Edukick, like in many performances over the term dominated possession and created lots of scoring opportunities in front of goal. During a 20 minute period of the first half the game resembled a basketball match, with end to end attacking from both teams. Somehow the lads came into half time 3-0 down with the City team being more clinical where it mattered. During the break it was a case of picking the lads up and reminding them of all the good work they had done over the season and digging deep during the second half to finish on a positive. Indeed the lads did this and were soon level with goals from, Ibrahim, Jaimie and Ha soon after the restart. This clearly affected the opposition as Edukick went searching for more goals. Four goals were scored again in quick succession, two coming from both teams leaving the score at 5-5, Matthew and Hang Su the scorers. The game was in the 89th minute when Edukick had worked the ball well into the opposition box, pressing for the winner with the ball in front of goal cramp struck our striker who fell to the ground, City regained possession, broke quickly and found the back of the net. Final result 6-5, disappointed by the score the lads were praised for the commitment, energy and work ethic shown not just during the game but throughout the programme.

    Final Score 6-5

The squad were playing on the back of a well earned 3-3 draw at the Etihad a week earlier and were hoping for another good performance. The squad setup to break down the opposition with a quick attack, but were caught immediately from kick off by a looped cross from out wide. The response was what i expected of the group who again dominated play and moved the ball with confidence across the park. The build up play for our equaliser was a pleasure to watch with some great positive work from Mahrus down the left who played the ball square to Miles and unleashed a first time shot 20 yards out, hitting the back of the net.

The game continued with Edukick controlling the play with confidence. Somehow we ended up conceding 2 goals in the 2nd half going 3-1 down. With plenty of time on the watch the squad remained calm and continued to press, creating chances. Jamie Evans pulled a second goal back with a well struck shot with Miles scoring his second of the game late on to bring the game back to 3-3. Another strong performance from the whole squad who continue to improve and show there understanding of what is being asked of them.

    Edukick Manchester 2 – 0 MIFA

It was a great start to the season for the Edukick side with a victory over local side MIFA. Playing at home in their first game of the campaign, the Edukick side could have been on the back foot from the start with 4 of their players only joining training just 2 days prior. After a shaky start where MIFA put them under a lot of pressure, the Edukick side settled into a calm and controlling game. The home side keeper pulled off some great saves to keep them in the game early on with two big threats for MIFA up front being strong and tough to play against. Pablo playing at the beck controlled the game after the first 10 minutes and never really looked troubled after that. Matthew, playing at left back, looked good going forward and the midfield/strikers started to press well midway through the first half. That pressure paid off when the MIFA keeper played the ball out to the right, Edukick pressed as they’d been working on in training that week to force aa mistake, and Lorenzo hit a great strike to put the home side 1-0 up, a lead they held to the break. As the second half kicked off, tiredness showed with the Edukick side, but they dug in and worked hard, containing the threats from the MIFA side and coming close on two occasions, Matthew hitting the post with a header that really should have been a second for Edukick. Fantastic defending kept the home side in the lead, and as MIFA pushed on towards the end of the game to try to level it, the home side broke quick, with some great link up play to slot Kehshan in for a run at goal who converted to make it 2-0 with 4 minutes to go. A great first performance by the Edukick side and a well-deserved victory. Coach Nigel Keogh said “A well organised performance from the lads who looked to play football when possible. The lads worked hard and thoroughly deserved the victory over a strong opposition, by showing determination and teamwork the lads fought hard towards the end of the game to keep the clean sheet. A great one handed save from the keeper and the build-up play to Matthew hitting the post come to mind”.

    Edukick Manchester 1 – 1 Curzon Ashton

As the Edukick side travelled to Tameside for the fixture against Curzon, it was a debut for many of the lads in the side, some of them only arriving earlier in the week and having just two or three sessions with the team. In very hot Manchester conditions the instructions to the players from Nigel, head coach, were to go out and be organised, disciplined and express themselves as they have done in training for the past few weeks. The first half was very tight with the Edukick side sticking to their individual roles and responsibilities well, not allowing Curzon to play through the middle of the field.

At the break the deadlock hadn’t been broken, going in all square and no goals but the visiting side looking fresh. As the second half kicked off, the home side pressed and ten minutes into the second half Curzon took the lead from a misplaced pass by the Edukick side. The visitor’s attitude remained positive and they continued to create and pass the ball well, creating some great chances and being the dominant side.

As the game went on and the confidence grew in the Edukick side, Aldo picked up the ball from deep inside his own half, some great passages of play through the thirds ended with Ibrahim slotting home an equaliser from the left hand side.

The game finished all square at 1 – 1. A great result for a side that have only been together for a few weeks and some a few days, with so many positives to take.

    Edukick Manchester 2-1 Staylybridge Celtic

Looking to build on a positive performance and result from last week, the Edukick side welcomed Stalybridge Celtic to their home ground as the sports village.

The Edukick team had continued to work hard in training and had an excitement about them going into the game. Compete and play the ball quickly were the instructions before kick off against what looked a physical Stalybridge side.

Early in the game the home side conceded a penalty and from the resulting spot kick were slow to react after the initial shot hit the post with the rebound being finished off by their striker. The response was crucial from the squad and they showed their strength in character and team work by continuing to play the better football and cause problems for the visitors. The hard work paid off when after a nice flowing move Ibrahim was brought down in the box. Ibrahim calmly picked himself up to convert the kick off the underside of the bar to draw the sides level going into the break.

At the break the home side came in, looking relaxed and in control and were by far the much better team. In the second half the football continued starting from the keeper who moved the ball quickly looking to play in behind the visitors defence. Possession was key and this led to the winning goal, the visitors pressed high and a through ball for Kershan to run onto led to him lobbing the ball over the keeper. The lads celebrated like the team they have become and kept to their jobs to see the game out. 2-1 victory and a very positive, footballing performance showing that hard work pays off.

    EduKick Manchester 2 -2 Preston

Looking for a win on the back of several good performances, the lads started brightly with each player concentrating their role and playing as a unit. With plenty of possession the lads dominates the first period of the game and took the lead on 30 minutes through another goal for Ibrahim. The lads looking comfortable the aim was to get through to half time at 1-0, unfortunately a penalty was awarded to the opposition which they converted with the last kick of the half.

A good amount of possession continued into the second half but EduKick Manchester lacked that urgency to score goals. The team found themselves 2-1 down after Preston scored from a free kick. This sparked the lads back into life and they worked hard to create chance after chance. Miles then made it three goals in three games by scoring the equaliser, the game ending 2-2.

Another promising performance from the lads who now look to Friday for their next fixture against Platinum.

Manchester City Community Team 2 – 2 EduKick Manchester

The lads returned to the Etihad campus in high spirits looking to build on from the win against Stockport County.

The lads started brightly, moving the ball quickly with early touches for each player. Looking to break forwards quickly the team created a number of chances. Edukick dominated the ball and were rewarded in the 15th minute with a well taken goal from the hard working Kehshan. This stirred City team into life and they looked to force us back and levelled the score in the 25th minute.

The half finished 1-1 and the lads were upbeat, showing the confidence required to go on and win the game. City were awarded with a free kick early on in the 2nd half which they converted with a well taken strike. Chances came for both sides, the pace of the game and end to end opportunities looking more like a basketball game. Substitutions were made and it was one of these, Jamie, who equalised with a wonderful 18 yard strike into the top corner.

Another promising result and performance for the squad. A special mention must go to Kehshan who played his final game for the Academy. His work rate and attitude has been top level and we all wish him the very best for the future.

Manchester City College v EduKick Manchester

The new look Edukick team played their first fixture of the term at the excellent facilities at the Etihad Campus, against one of the City college teams. The lads were encouraged to keep the ball and look to create opportunities on the break. With plenty of possession and a 5 man midfield the lads dominated play throughout the game and created chance after chance.

Unfortunately a mistake from our keeper led to City taking the lead with a simple finish. The lads bounced immediately back with a good team goal finished off by Kevin.

A well taken free kick gave City a 2-1 lead at the half time break.

The second half continued with positive play but the back four were caught out late on by a third goal.

    Final score City 3 – EduKick 1.

    EduKick Manchester v Platinum

The Edukick Manchester squad took part in training game against Platinum last Friday down at the Salford Sports facility. The game was played to allow Ex professional David Mannix to step in and coach both teams through out the first half, as part of his assessment for his A license. David who is a product of Liverpool’s football academy was one of the youngest ever players to play for Liverpool reserves. He also went on to make appearances for Accrington Stanley (13), Chester City (13), Vauxhall Motors (67) and Warrington Town (87). Mannix also made several appearances in the English youth team.

It was an opportunity for the lads to be coached by someone who has a wide range of both playing and coaching experience who also has many connections with both professional and semi-professional clubs.

The first 45 minutes were played like a training session with David stepping in and providing coaching to both sets of players on both technical and tactical aspects of the game. We took the lead through a well taken goal by Ibrahim after some quick play and a great through ball from Naldo. As head coach it was great to see David using the lead up to the goal to advise all the players on how to exploit the opposition quickly. The game was played in great spirit with high energy levels from both teams, unfortunately we tired towards the end and the result ended 3-1 to Platinum. The lads benefitted greatly from the session as both positive and negative points were recognised immediately which is difficult to do in a normal game situation.
